Lavandula is a little taste of Europe.

Follow the tall poplars up the driveway and find a rustica constructed by Swiss-Italians who stayed after the gold rushes. These stone farmhouse buildings cluster around a cobbled courtyard, surrounded by a beautiful garden, lavender fields, the creek and distant hills.

Stoechas lavender is in flower from late October. The English lavender is in full bloom from Christmas: the fields are patterned in white, pink, mauve and deep purple lavenders. Through January the flower stems are hand harvested using a sickle, and bunched for sale fresh or dried. The flowers are distilled, producing lavender water and oil for our own body products.

In the Stillroom we hand-make body products. The Barn stocks homewares and garments, and Lavandula's range of potions good for body and soul.

The 1850s stone farmhouse is opened each afternoon for a short visit, and is a stunning example of rural Italian architecture.

At La Trattoria eat indoors or al fresco in the ash grove. The cuisine is Mediterranean and seasonal foods are sourced from the garden.

Bring a rug and relax under the trees, play petanque or track down the farm animals.

Each season Lavandula has a special festival day to showcase garden produce, rural skills, regional wines and foods, and acoustic music.

Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm is simply beautiful. Come and breathe country air. A visit lifts the heart, inspires and refreshes.
